Import files can contain a wide variety of data, from numeric only columns to mixed datatypes, along with missing datafields.
Data is usually imported "as is" and validated after it is loaded in the
preview. However some common errors can occur when loading the preview.
General Notes
- The import file should retain the column header
descriptions
- The number of column headers must match what is specified by the import file
. However Excel imports can be less constrained, as long as the
column headers are identified.
- Verify the number of lines in the preview match the import
file before saving the transaction.
Import File Notes when Using Excel Import (xls):
- Importing Inventory Records: The 'ItemNumber' column should contain all alpha numeric data or just numbers. If the datatypes
in a column are mixed, then errors may
occur when loading the data. In this case, the worksheet may have to be saved as a CSV file, and imported as a CSV file, as this uses a different method for importing data.
Import File Notes when Using text files with Comma Separated Columns (CSV or txt):
- Comma separated files can be created from Microsoft Excel,
by saving as file type CSV.
- The file may not load into the preview if some of the data is missing
